The financial power of Latino Businesses: Study reveals key trends in access to finance in the U.S.

According to a comprehensive study conducted by Stanford Graduate School of Business, it has revealed that Latino Owned Business (LOB) companies have been leading the way in seeking funding, significantly outpacing white-owned businesses (White Owned Business (WOB). Even though there was an overall decrease in fund-seeking compared to the previous year, LOBs were 50% more likely to seek funding than WOBs in 2022.

The figures also reveal changes in funding preferences. Surveys indicate that companies, both LOB and WOB, sought substantially less funding in 2022 compared to 2021. This trend became most evident in WOBs, which experienced a steeper decline in seeking funding.

Within the most popular forms of financing, commercial credit cards and loans from national banks were the most affected, with WOBs experiencing a greater reduction in seeking financing in these areas compared to LOBs.

The study also dives into domestic bank loans, which are one of the most popular financing options. It reveals that, at the time of applying for these loans, LOBs have gross income three times that of WOBs, similar credit scores, and lower outstanding debt. However, LOBs face lower approval rates than WOBs when applying for loans over $50,000.

These findings shed light on the complex dynamics of business finance in the United States and provide valuable insight into emerging trends in the field. Access to finance remains a critical challenge and often determinant to the success of businesses, and understanding these trends is essential for entrepreneurs and business owners looking to thrive in the changing American business landscape.
