A recent study conducted by Bank of America, titled ‘2024 Hispanic-Latino Business Owner Spotlight,’ reveals that over 80% of Hispanic-Latino businesses in the United States project revenue growth for the year 2025. This optimism is notably higher than that of non-Hispanic business owners, of whom 78% anticipate an increase in revenue.
The report highlights that 78% of Hispanic-Latino businesses plan to expand in 2025, compared to 63% of non-Hispanic businesses. Additionally, 64% of Hispanic-Latino companies intend to increase their workforce, compared to 52% of non-Hispanic companies. This trend reflects greater market confidence and a positive economic outlook.
Economic confidence among Hispanic-Latino entrepreneurs is significantly high, with 76% believing in national economic growth next year, compared to 59% of non-Hispanic entrepreneurs. Globally, 72% of Hispanic-Latino entrepreneurs have positive economic expectations, compared to 57% of non-Hispanics. This optimism aligns with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) projections, which in July 2024 adjusted their global economic growth expectations for 2025 upwards to 3.3%.
Despite this optimism, access to capital remains a challenge for Hispanic-Latino entrepreneurs. The study shows that 55% believe they have equal access to capital, but 53% have experienced difficulties in obtaining it. To support their growth plans, 94% of these entrepreneurs plan to seek financing in the next 12 months. This access to capital is crucial for investing in new technologies, expanding operations, and hiring more staff.
In the labor market, a significant problem is the shortage of labor, with 81% of Hispanic-Latino entrepreneurs reporting impacts on their businesses. To address these challenges, many are adopting innovative strategies, such as using artificial intelligence tools for hiring and automation to optimize operations. The study reveals that 34% of Hispanic-Latino entrepreneurs have difficulty filling vacant positions, 33% have increased wages to attract competitive talent, and another 33% are working more hours personally due to a lack of staff.
This study underscores the resilience and dynamism of the Hispanic-Latino business community in the United States, highlighting their crucial role in the country's economy. With over 5 million Hispanic-Latino businesses contributing $800 billion annually to the U.S. economy, their impact is undeniable. However, to maintain and enhance this growth, it is essential to address challenges related to access to capital and labor shortages.
